Stockwell, Mary A. (25 MAR 1845 – 31 Dec 1918)

Mary A. Stockwell, wife of Cyrus S. Stockwell, died at their home on Court Street on Tuesday morning, aged 73 years, 9 months, and 6 days.

Mary A. Carless was born at Gloucester, England, on March 25, 1845. She came to this country with her parents in 1850 and settled at Long Point, Canada, coming to the United States in 1865. She was united in marriage to C.S. Stockwell at Brockway, Mich., April 11, 1868. Mr. and Mrs. Stockwell came to Clark County in 1882, and Neillsville had been their home ever since. Eight children were born to them, all of whom survive their mother. Deceased is survived by her husband and children as follows: Cyrus S. Stockwell of Spooner; Mrs. F.J. Baer of Granton; Israel M. Stockwell of Volga, S.D.; Mrs. F.S. Thomas of Lisbon, N.D.; Thomas C. Stockwell, a radio operator at Honolulu; Mrs. E.G. Wanner of Bismarck, N.D.; Arthur R. Stockwell of Pine Valley and Miss Ethel Stockwell at home.

Mrs. Stockwell died at noon on Tuesday and it is notable that her life closed at the closing of the most eventful year of her life. After a long, busy and useful life, she died as she had lived—honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her and her life was completed if work well done constitutes completion. Hers was a life of kindness and simplicity and her memory will long linger in the hearts of her friends and neighbors.

The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon and services will be conducted by Rev. Longenecker at the family residence.
