Boehm, Lawrence J. (15 SEP 1940 - 12 FEB 2016)

Lawrence J. Boehm, 75, Town of Cassel, Edgar WI, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 12, 2016, at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau WI.

He was born September 15, 1940, son of the late John H. and Pauline (Meixner) Boehm.

On July 14, 1962 he married JoAnn Kordus at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.

Lawrence (Larry) attended grade school at Sacred Heart, Town of Cassel and graduated from Edgar High School in 1958. Following graduation, he continued working on the family farm; eventually taking it over from his parents in 1963. He quickly broke in his city bride, JoAnn to his love of farming. Together they continued farming with their son Patrick who decided to dedicate himself to the family farm full time in 1983, eventually taking over ownership in 2004.

Larry was also the second generation owner/operator of Boehm Insurance Agency in Edgar beginning in 1960. His son Michael joined him in 1984 and Larry continued working with the agency until 2006 when Michael took over ownership. From 1976 to 1998, Larry raised ginseng which was also carried on by his sons, Michael and Patrick. Also in 1976, he and JoAnn partnered with Len and Judy Berg to build the Edgar Lanes which they owned and operated until 1980. Though Larry was "retired" from the farm, insurance agency and ginseng, he continued to provide invaluable assistance to his sons as their mentor and tractor driver to this day.

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn Boehm, town of Cassel, his children, Michael (Sally) Boehm and Lisa (Jeffrey Mueller), both of Edgar, four grandchildren, Danielle (Raymond) Dahlke, Jarett (fiancé Magdolyn Nowak) Mueller and Derek and Mitchell Boehm, his siblings, Evelyn Lewandowski, Thorp, Loretta Stanton, Wausau, Clarence (Mary Ann) Boehm, Cumberland and Ervin (Clarice) Boehm, Wausau, one brother-in-law, Charles Lang Sr., and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Boehm, one sister, Rose Lang and two brothers-in-law, John Lewandowski and Gary Stanton.

While it is evident Larry worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy life. He often enjoyed reminiscing on his younger years; the ball playing days with Denfelds bar, all the many memories of the Cassel neighborhood, including Sunday benediction at Schneebergers bar, along with fishing on the Eau Plaine with his buddies, trips to Las Vegas and the casinos with JoAnn and friends, and of course, family vacations particularly Musky Haven, their trip to Florida and all the years at their cottage on Squirrel Lake.

He was most proud of his four grandchildren; following them around to watch all their sporting events, never failing to provide his own commentary, particularly with the basketball referees and coaches. In 2007, his grandchildren presented him with an honorary plaque at Edgar High School where he was inducted into the Edgar Hall of Fame in recognition of his dedication to the Edgar community.

The last several years, Larry spent summer days at their cottage on Squirrel Lake with his daughter Lisa and her family. He enjoyed cocktail hour, providing pontoon rides, spending time around the fire and playing card games where he liked to keep a few cards to himself, or take one of yours occasionally. He loved to drive tractor; planting/harvesting crops and ginseng, running around on the four wheeler, spending time laughing at his favorite Three Stooges and visiting with family, friends, all the gang at Willy's Pub as well as the special motorcycle friends of his son Patrick's. Larry will be greatly missed by all. We will treasure the memories and take comfort in knowing he has joined those family and friends who have gone before him. He will live on in others through his generous gift of tissue and bone marrow donation.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. The Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday, February 29 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar is in charge of the arrangements.
