Kapfer, Erich C. (28 Jan 1909 – 29 Apr 1974)

Erick Carl Kapfer passed away April 29, 1974. He was born January 28, 1909 in Biberach, Germany. He came to America in 1930, worked in Chicago, where he met and then married Mary Staffen on May 19, 1934. In August of 1946 they moved 12 miles south of Thorp, where he was still actively farming.

He is survived by his wife Mary; three daughters, Maryann (Mrs. Bernard Mertens), Thorp, Pauline (Mrs. David Haas), Thorp, Ericka (Mrs. Darwin Mason); one son, Erich Jr., Thorp 21 grandchildren; 3 sisters and 1 brother in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Maryann Kapfer; 7 brothers and 5 sisters, all of Germany; 1 sister of Chicago, and 1 grandson in infancy.

The funeral mass was held at the Holy Family Parish, Willard at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial was made in St. Bernard’s Cemetery at Thorp.

The pallbearers were Bernard Mertens Jr., grandson, Thorp, Steven Haas, grandson, Thorp, Vincent Scorsone, Chicago, Ralph Kratochvil, Fall Creek, Daniel Smerecek, Loyal, John Digoski, Willard, friends.

Friends and relatives came from Egg Harbor, Eau Claire, Fall Creek, Chicago, Tomah, Birchwood, Loyal, Greenwood, Willard and Thorp.
