Washburn (16 May 1974)

Mrs. Art Williams has been a patient at Memorial Hospital since last Thursday. She has pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Lefty) Zank of Cedar Falls, Ia., came early Friday morning, being called here by her illness.

Bible Study was held at the Francis Jacobson home in Sherwood last Thursday night. Next meeting will be held at the Ralph Schram home near Alma Center.

Mrs. Russel Smith entertained several ladies Thursday night at a part and shower honoring Kathy Steponic. She and Bobby Mortenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mortenson, plan to be married in June.

Mrs. Ralph Schram was to entertain the Cannonville Ladies Aid Wednesday at their home near Alma Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Lindow and family of St. Louis, MO., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Lindow.

Mrs. Ron Gillion of Minneapolis spent a couple of days last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Lindow, and assisted them with moving into their new trailer home near Chili.

George Tullis and nephews, Mark and Kevin Hartenstein of Waukesha, called Saturday at the Louie Scholtz home in Neillsville. They came after his mother, Mrs. William Tullis, who spent a couple of weeks with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Scholtz, brother, Ralph Scholtz, in Sherwood, and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Albert Lincoln went to Minneapolis Saturday with her daughter-in-law Mrs. Gerry Lincoln, and son, when she visited her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tannem and family, and daughters, Lorraine, Jean and Norma. She returned home by bus Sunday evening.

Mrs. Bud Bremer, Mrs. Harold Elmendorf and Carrie Sexton called Sunday at the Ralph Short home.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kyle visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kyle, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Warriner of Mauston called Tuesday at the Ralph Short home. He is a relative of the late Mrs. Bidwell, who lived in the Shortville area many years ago. They were trying to find out some information in regard to her family for their family tree.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barth visited Friday evening at the Mrs. Art Odell home.

Mrs. Leland Dopp of Marshfield and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short, called Monday at the Mrs. Irving Stevens home.

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Vandeberg and sons of Wisconsin Rapids visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short called on Mr. and Mrs. Jess Wilding, Mrs. Frank Short, Mrs. Newt Toptine and Mrs. Williams at Memorial Home last Thursday.

Mrs. Harry Kissling returned home Thursday evening after spending a week or 10 days with her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Ell (Skip) Lee, and family in Green Bay. Dr. and Mrs. Lee attended a dental convention in Milwaukee and also attended Dr. Lee’s 10th class reunion of Marquette University. Mrs. Kissling stayed with her grandchildren during their absence.

We had one inch of rainfall Friday night. It will do a lot of good as it was getting quite dry. The farmers have most of their grain planted. Many are working corn ground and several have their corn planted.

Vicki Kissling, who attends college at Winona, Mn, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kissling.
