Granton (9 May 1974)

Granton Senior Citizens are to meet Tuesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the usual place. All members are to bring sandwiches and half a dozen cookies. Mrs. Jeanette Steiner will be the guest speaker. She will speak on development and upkeep of the Granton Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick Harlan were honored Saturday evening with a surprise housewarming at their home in Neillsville. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Harlin, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Garbisch, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Garbisch, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Garbisch, Harold Garbisch, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Garbisch, Lenny Reich, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Naedler and Mr. and Mrs. David Lavey of Granton, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Milanowski and Scott and Gary Garbisch of Milwaukee and Bernard Garbisch of Arpin.

During the evening entertainment was provided by Harold Garbisch and his concertina, and by the Minor Chords barbershop quartet composed of Dick Harlin, David Lavey, Marvin Garbisch and Rueben Garbisch. The group had not sung together in many years. Mr. Milanowski also played the concertina. A lunch was served and the Harlins were presented with gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fero visited with Mrs. Alice Nagel and daughters at Edgar Sunday evening.

The Granton Women’s Civic club biennial banquet was to be held Tuesday evening at Bali Hai supper club. A program was planned.

Mrs. Otto Schmidtke was a dinner guest last Sunday of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Otto A. Schmidtke and family, at Stratford.

York Sew and So Homemakers are to meet today (Thursday) with Mrs. Nyle Benedict.

Mrs. Lloyd Spry spent a week recently with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson and family, at Wild Rose.

Veefkind Homemakers met for their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Erwin Farnsworth, who presented a project on candle-making. The next meeting will with Mrs. Christine Kurz, rural Spencer May 15.

Romadka Homemakers were to meet Wednesday with Miss Ruth Pietenpol.

Those present for a family gathering last Sunday at the Roger Tyler home were Mr. and Mrs. Arno Guk and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Tyler of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Bass and Mrs. Otto Anding.

The LWML of Zion Lutheran church met for its April meeting with Mrs. Elnor Reich as hostess. A family night was planned for Sunday, May 5, with the film, “Mojave Sand to African Bush,” to be shown, and a potluck to follow. Mrs. Pat Anding will be hostess for the May 22 meeting, when members will begin the Bible study series, “Send Me, too.”

Mrs. Myrtie Davis was hostess for the April meeting of Royal Neighbors Fidelity Camp No. 6375. The May meeting will be with Mrs. Clarence Ganther.

Mrs. William Schmidtke, Miss Mabel Williams and Mrs. Lloyd Spry called last Sunday on Mrs. Zettie Young at the home of her niece, Mrs. Herbert Fensome, rural Spencer. Mrs. Young was called here by from Mesa, Az., by the recent death of her sister, Mrs. Blanche Scheffner, Mrs. Fensome’s mother.

Mrs. Elda Bartz and Mrs. Arnold Garbisch spent Saturday and Sunday with their sister, Mrs. Ray Nowack, while Mr Nowack and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Elmhorst visited Mr. and Mrs. Dick Howe in Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Montgomery of Phillips visited last Tuesday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fero. Mrs. Harvey Johnson visited at the Fero home Monday forenoon.

The Friendly Neighbors Club is to meet Friday at the Harland Messner home, rural Chili.

The UMW society of the United Methodist Church met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Esther Schmidtke as hostess and Miss Mabel Williams as Bible Study leader. A report was given on the April bake sale. Mrs. Schmidtke will be the Bible study leader for the June meeting and Mrs. Dorothy Crandall will be the hostess.
