Salzwedel, Lester (25 AUG 1924 – 11 JUN 1957)

Lester Salzwedel, Pierre, S.D., son of Mrs. Helma Salzwedel, Marshfield, was born in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) on Aug. 25, 1924 and went to Marshfield with his parents at an early age and received his education there.

From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Army, half the time overseas with the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance group. The Belgium government presented him with a Fourrtgers Medal for service in the Battle of the Bulge.

In 1947 he was married to Imogene Quashnik at Eureka, S.D. They have resided in Pierre, S.D. since 1950.

Lester passed away at a hospital in in Pierre at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 1957, from a brain hemorrhage.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 15th at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanson Funeral Home, Marshfield. The Rev. Robert Gibson, pastor of Alliance Missionary Church, officiated. Graveside military rites were conducted at Hillside Cemetery.

During the service, Mrs. Robert Gibson sand "Doe Jesus Care" and "Good Night and Good Morning," accompanied by Mrs. Carl Baehne at the organ.

Lester is survived by his wife, four children, Mike, 8; Candy, 5' Guy, 3' and Rod, 13 month; his mother, Mrs. Helma Salzwedel, Marshfield; Mrs. Lawrence (Elsie) Tessmer, Mrs. Howard (Flossie) Brown, Marshfield; Mrs. Lawrence (Violet) Mess, Mrs. Walter (Beulah) Johnson, Rhinelander, and one brother, Ira Salzwedel, Rhinelander.

His father preceded him in death.
