Sazama, Mary (4 JUL 1897 – 27 FEB 1968)

Funeral services for Mrs. Paul Sazama, 70, Colby, who died Feb. 27, 1968, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, were held Friday, March 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby.

A nephew, the Rev. Fred Reischl, Woodbine, Ia., officiated at the services, assisted by the Rev. John Olson of St. Mary's. Interment was made in St. Mary's parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Willard Wellner, James Sazama, Leon Sazama, Silvester Sazama, Willard Horvath and Dennis Horvath.

The former Mary Schenk was born July 4, 1897 at Corpus Christie, Texas. Her marriage to Paul Sazama, who survives, took place July 18, 1921 at St. Mary's Church, Colby. She had moved to this area that spring.

The couple farmed in the town of Frankfort until their retirement in 1960.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, and the parish's Christian Mothers.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Janet) Brill of Colby, and a foster son, Steve Miller. There are eight grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Adolph Schenk of Houston, Texas, and three sisters, Mrs. Rose Schwartz of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Pauline Reischel of Woodbine, Ia., and Mrs. Minnie Bauer of Harlan, Ia. Preceding her in death were a sister and a brother.
