Rand, Larry Lee (12 April 1942 - 16 May 2015) With Flag

Larry Lee Rand (Morrison, Peterson), of Appleton passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the age of 73.

Larry was born to Donald Morrison and Dorothy Mountain April 12, 1942, adopted by Orville Peterson and Dale Rand and later by Peter Rand, Jr. and Mabel Johnson. He grew up the youngest of four children and attended the East Grand Forks schools, graduating in 1960. Football and track were Larry’s high school sports interests and he held the Minnesota State low hurdles track record for several years. After graduation, Larry attended the University-North Dakota in Grand Forks prior to joining the U. S. Navy, where he spent 20 years and retired in 1982. During Larry’s military service he served on the White House Staff, spent a year in Antarctica, supporting research facilities and served on five ships and several naval installations on the east coast.

While stationed at Great lakes Naval Base he met and married Nancy Donaldson, a fellow sailor, April 7, 1967. Larry also spent several years as an engineer for ServiceMaster, serving in Willmar, MN, Green Bay, West Bend, Minocqua and Neillsville.

Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Nancy Lee (Jeffrey Voss) of Fitchburg and Rebecca of Appleton; granddaughters, Ryan E. of Chicago and Erin N. Voss of Stevens Point; and brother, John Lieberg of Florence, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and David; sister, Diane; adopted brother, Peter P.; adopted sisters, Helen and Dale; and nephew, Richard Rand.

Cremation has taken place with the interment of his ashes Friday, Aug. 21 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner.

The family is grateful for the condolences but declines flowers.

A Memorial Stone will be placed during a spring ceremony at The Highground, Neillsville.
