Combining School District Discussed by Boards
The board of education of Abbotsford and Principal Herbert Juneau met the Colby
board of education and the Principal John Ravey, at the Colby high school,
Monday evening, to discuss the possibilities of and plans for a merging the
Colby and Abbotsford school districts to increase the educational facilities and
advantages for the students in this area.
The Abbotsford board proposed that the two districts be merged and a complete
survey of the needs of the area; and the building potential in terms of size,
student enrollment, course offerings, site, and cost, be made as soon as
possible. Until such a time as that survey can be completed and plans drawn up
for a new and larger high school, that the students of the enlarged district be
assigned to the existing Colby and Abbotsford high school building so that there
will be no interruption in their training.
This planning program, as proposed by the Abbotsford board of education, would
include a committee composed of representative members of all parts of the newly
enlarged union high school district.
It was the final recommendation of the board to approach the topic with the
utmost caution and deliberation.
