LaSage, Katherine A. (15 November 1929 - 27 June 2015)

Katherine (Katie) A. LaSage, age 85, of Stanley, WI passed away on June 27, 2015, at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Thorp.

Katie was born on November 15, 1929, to Peter and Anna (Leja) Slowiak at their home in Junction. She was baptized and received her Catholic education at St. Mary Czestochowa where she received her confirmation and was later married in the old church. She attended White Eagle School all eight grades. She then attended Stanley High and graduated in 1947. She went on to work at Thorp Financial in Thorp.

She was married to Cliff Ebben, whom she met in her high school days at a St. Hedwig Church picnic. They were married on September 4, 1948, at St. Mary Czestochowa. They lived in Augusta for a year where Cliff was in a partnership in a dry cleaning business. Then they moved to Thorp and opened Cliff’s Cleaners. They sold the business in 1978. She continued working until 1988 for Century Cleaners. Her husband, Cliff, passed away in October of 1983 of cancer.

On November 5, 1988, she married Robert LaSage of Stanley. He passed away of cancer in July of 1999. Katie remained living in Stanley.

She was a member of Holy Family PCCW and American Legion Auxiliary Post 118 or Thorp. She also sang in the St. Bernard’s choir for many years when she lived in Thorp. She did a lot of volunteer work for the Legion Auxiliary until her health problems prevented her from continuing.

Katie enjoyed her years of bowling in Thorp and Stanley, having bowled a 300 game in a 9-pin tournament in Greenwood.

She is survived by her four daughter: Debbie (Wayne) Seeger, Racine, Jane (Dan) Kramer Appleton, Nancy (Joel) Cance, Franksville, and Pam (Dennis) Berdal, Eagle River; seven grandchildren: Ryan (Connie) Berdal of Wausau, Rebecca (Brian) Roeder of Stoughton, Dennis (Kathleen) Berdal, Jr. of North Carolina, Katie Rose (Zac) Licau of Franklin, Craig (Ashley) Cance of Minnesota, Nick (Sade) Seeger and Mike Seeger both of Racine; and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Yvonne Slowiak, Irene Slowiak, Skelly Ebben, Carol (Rich) Boie, Leta Ebben, and Joanna Ebben; brother-in-law; Jim Sneen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Slowiak; sisters: Frances (Chester) Liszewski, Bernice (Ed) Olichwier, Dorothy (Harley) Svoma, and Helen Slowiak; brothers: Edward Slowiak, and Ray Slowiak; brothers-in-law: Ron Ebben, Clay Ebben, Leonard Ebben; sister-in-law, Rosann Sneen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to All Saints Catholic Parish - Holy Family Church carpet fund, the Arthritis Foundation or Diabetes Foundation.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish - Holy Family Church, 226 E. 3rd Ave., Stanley, WI on Wednesday July 1, 2015. Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial took place at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Thorp.
