Marg, Erland R. (26 January 1937 - 12 June 2015) With Flag

Erland R. Marg, 78, of Wisconsin Dells passed away Friday, June 12, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Erland was born Jan. 26, 1937, in Granton, the son of Elmer and Agnes (Garbisch) Marg. He was a 1955 graduate of Granton High School and attended the university of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture education and biological science in 1959. He married Dorothy Joyce Wallace July 6, 1957, at the First Lutheran Church in Platteville. She preceded him in death June 7, 2003. He then married Jenne Elsa Strackbein May 24, 2005, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Springs.

Erland worked at Waupaca Foundry as a lab manager for over 21 years before retiring. After retirement, he worked part-time at Christmas Mountain mowing the golf course. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors with traveling and camping.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Springs and served in the Wisconsin National Guard for over 37 years, which included time during the Berlin Crisis.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Wisconsin Dells; his 10 children: Vicki, Steven (Linda), Kevin (Deborah), Michael (Michelle), Jeffrey (Lisa), Timothy (Sheila), Gary, Richard, Robert (Jodi) and Kim (Shayne) Pues; two step-children: Paula (Bruce Henke) Lins and Steven (Tanya) Strackbein; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alene Lautenbach and Amber (Harvey) Pischer; a sister-in-law, Rhoena Marg; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Erland was preceded in death by two brothers; Curtiss and Duane; and infant sister, Ruth; daughter-in-law, Theresa Marg; brother-in-law, Ralph Lautenbach; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Marg.

Honorary services were held at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 299 W. Broadway St. in Rock Springs, with Pastor David Karow officiating. Inurnment will take place in Central Wisconsin Veteran’s Cemetery, King, Friday, July 17, at 2 p.m. with military honors provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church.

The Rago-Baldwin Funeral home assisted the family with arrangements.
