Miss Sandra Meissner, 18, of rt. 1, Chili (Clark Co., Wis.), was named Miss Rural Electrification in a national contest in Dallas, Texas, Wednesday night, Feb. 28, 1968.

She is the first Wisconsin representative to win the national title. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Meissner, she is a freshman at Wis. State University at Oshkosh, where she is majoring in nursing.

For winning the national title a $2,500 college scholarship provided jointly by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Assn., Washington, D.C., and the General Electric Company.

She will be given an additional $300 scholarship from Wisconsin Electric Cooperative, Madison, when she completes her year's reign as Miss Wisconsin Rural Electrification. She will crown her Wisconsin successors in Green Bay March 26 during the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative annual meeting.

Nine contestants participated in the national contest. Other states represented were Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico, Tennessee and Texas. The Miss Rural Electrification contest was held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Assn.
