Bardeleben, Emma Hulda (23 October 1896 - 26 October 1973)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for Mrs. Emma Hulda Bardeleben, 77, who died October 26 at her home in Neillsville. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

The daughter of August and Bertha (Marth) Marg, Mrs. Bardeleben was born October 23, 1896, in the Town of Pine Valley and was educated in schools there. She did house work as a young woman. Following her marriage to Herbert Bardeleben, which took place July 26, 1922, in Neillsville, the couple farmed in Pine Valley until they retired and moved to the city. Mr. Bardeleben preceded his wife in death on August 24, 1963.

Mrs. Bardeleben had worked as a cook in restaurants in Neillsville and for the Kiwanis Club. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and of its Ladies Aid Society, and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three children, Arthur Bardeleben of Beloit, Mrs. Jim (Gladys) Cummings of Alma Center and Mrs. Dean (Helen) Houlihan of Sioux City, Ia.; one sister, Mrs. Victor (Hilda) Rhodes of Marshfield; four brothers, Albert and Fred Marg of Neillsville, William Marg of Watertown, and Frank Marg of Milwaukee; and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Art Ackerman, Leonard Schultz, Gary and Dale Cummings, Mark Houlihan and Richard Bardeleben.

The seventh and eighth grade children of St. John’s School sang ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ and ‘Just as I Am”, accompanied by Victor Lehmann.

Zschernitz and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Halverson, Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Helm, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cook, Granton; Mrs. Ida Carl and granddaughter, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Louie Nemitz, New Auburn. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary attended in a body.
