Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Bergen Smith (Golden - 22 October 1973)

Over 200 persons attended the open house and dinner Saturday at the Wildcat Inn honoring the Golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bergen Smith of Neillsville. That evening, a dance was held at the Silver Dome Ballroom.

Among those present for the observance were ten of the couple’s children; with the exception of a daughter-in-law from Colorado, their husbands and wives were also in attendance. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild were also unable to attend.

Close relatives from away who joined in the observance included Mr. Smith’s brother, Wilbur Smith of Waukesha, and a friend, Cathy Burrow; five of Mrs. Smith’s sisters and their families, Mrs. Violet Putnam of Oconto Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie (Grace) Allen of Little Suamico and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Maus of Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Lee (Rose) Giel and daughter, Carol, of Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Butch (Peggy) Peterson of Iron Mountain, Mi, Mrs. Mary Massicotte of Iron Mountain, Mi, and her sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pugh, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pugh and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Pugh of Kingsford, Mi.; Mrs. Smith’s brothers, Robert Hyland of Kingsford, Mi, and a friend; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Vida LaCourt of Oconto; and her cousin, Mrs. Katherine Perner and daughter, Mary of Appleton.

Friends also came from Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, Stoughton, Waukesha, Granton, Altoona, Stratford, Willard and Greenwood, as well as from Neillsville.

On Monday, their actual anniversary date, the Smiths received visitors at their home throughout the afternoon and evening.

Referring particularly to the sunny, pleasant weather of the 22nd, Mrs. Smith recalled: "It was just as beautiful a day 50 years ago."
