Granton (18 October 1973)

Mr. and Mrs. George Bayer and her mother, Mrs. Augusta Maedler, all of Evergreen Park, Il., are houseguests of Mrs. William Schmidtke. Her nephew, Gene Turner of Rockford, Il., also spent from Saturday night until Monday morning with Mrs. Schmidtke.

Mrs. Ethel Berg underwent surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where Van L. Kayser has also been a patient for approximately three weeks.

The Granton music mothers’ first card party of the season, held last Monday evening, was well-attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Henninger, who spent the past week visiting with their son, Vernon, and his family at Neosho and with their granddaughters and their families at Hartford, returned home Monday morning. Sunday, they drove to Milwaukee to bring his sister, Betty Henninger, to the Vernon Henninger home for the day. They also drove to Horicon to view the annual influx of Canadian geese at the marsh.

Mr. and Mrs, Elwin Larson of Westfield, Mrs. Irene Drescher and Wayne of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burkart and Jennifer of Eau Claire were recent guests of Mrs. Elda Bartz. The Larsons have now returned to their winter home in Arizona.

Mrs. Gertrude Garbisch will entertain the Granton Homemakers club today (Thursday).

A speaker from the Wausau social security office was present for the Granton senior citizen’s meeting last Thursday evening. He spoke on a new assistance program which is to begin in January. Lunch was served by Mr. and Mrs. Hoeser and Mrs. Harry Kissling.

Mrs. Clarence Ganther entertained the Romadka Homemakers club last Wednesday afternoon.

Lee and Billy Ganther were to return home Tuesday after several days fishing at the family cabin at Mercer.

Over the weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Manford Cain visited with relatives in Morrison and Rock Falls, Il., and with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Earl Peoples, who is confined to the Dodgeville hospital with a broken hip.
