Henchen, Taylor (March Junior Kiwanian - 2015)

As the Neillsville Kiwanis Club spotlights the community’s outstanding students throughout the school year, members continue to be impressed with the wide range of involvement and the motivation to excel in multiple activities these individuals demonstrated in their young lives. The current Junior Kiwanian is a good example of this quality.

The club welcomes Taylor Henchen as its Junior Kiwanian for the month of March. Taylor is the daughter of Randy and LeeAnn Henchen and is a senior at Neillsville High School. She was introduced to the club members by Herman Seebandt and will be participating in the Monday meetings during the month.

Henchen characterizes the student athlete description with a strong academic background, combined with competitive three-sport participation throughout her high school career. She was selected as a 2015 WIAA Scholar Athlete. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society, has three academic letters and was a Badger Girls State representative. She is a member of choir, Spanish Club and FFA.

Athletically, Henchen has achieved all-conference awards and served as team captain in volleyball, softball and basketball and was a member of last year’s Division 3 state runner-up team. Additionally, she was named as a Gannett Central Wisconsin Media Athlete.

In the community, Henchen is active in St. Mary’s pancake feeds, fall cleanups and childcare. She has worked as a youth volleyball and basketball instructor and as scorekeeper and concession stand worker through the Recreation Department. Other employment includes waitressing at Mid-Towne Café, M & M Catering, swimming instructor for the Neillsville School District and Neillsville Recreation Department lifeguard.

Following graduation this spring, she will be attending UW-Green Bay to pursue studies in human biology/health and wellness. The Neillsville community can take pride in students like Henchen, who have the motivation and desire to achieve academic and athletic excellence, demonstrate leadership abilities and make the most of their school years.

The members of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club welcome Taylor Henchen as its Junior Kiwanian and look forward to her participation in the meetings for the month.
