(Note – Birth date from West Spencer Cemetery listing)

Military rites were held for M/Sgt. James Pickett, 51, at Spencer Saturday afternoon, at the Methodist Church. Sgt. Pickett was a brother to Mrs. Harold Krarup, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and the husband of the former Helga Krarup, formerly of Owen.

He died of a heart attack at Travis Air Force Base in California. He had been in the military service since 1940, when he enlisted in the army, working himself up to the rank of Warrant Officer. After his retirement upon completion of 20 years of service, he later re-enlisted in the air force. He has served in Hawaii, Japan and Turkey.

His marriage to Helga Krarup, who survives, took place Jan. 30, 1945 in Chicago. Other survivors are a son, Thomas, at home; his mother, Mrs. Frank Pickett, Spencer; and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Hilden, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Harold Krarup, Owen.
