Melcher, Sheila Marie (? - 14 February 2015)

Sheila Marie Melcher, age 46, of Edina, MN, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015. A visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp, WI, on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow, officiated by Rev. William J. Matzek. A burial will take place after the series. A Celebration of Life will occur on Saturday February 21, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at River Valley Church, 9675 W. 76th St., Eden Prairie, MN.

Sheila graduated from Thorp High School in 1987 and from UW-Madison in 1992. After graduation, Sheila served as a VISTA Adult Literacy volunteer in Tampa, FL for a year where she initiated the first adult student literacy support group in the area. Sheila then moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where she lived for 20 years.

In 2009, Sheila graduated from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Early Childhood Psychology. She loved children and showed that love through her decade of work at Gillette Children’s Hospital in patient services, as a childcare volunteer at her church and at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, and in precious time spent with her niece and nephew and little friends, Zak and Jack.

A voracious reader, Sheila also loved going to movies and taking advantage of the many events, restaurants and outdoor opportunities in the Twin Cities.

She is survived by her mother, Patricia, of Thorp, WI; sisters: Lisa VonBlerken (Eric) of Eau Claire, and Krista Flanagan (Scott), of Oregon, WI, and their children Erin and Sean.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Michael Melcher.
