Smith, Oakley W. (2 March 1932 - 28 May 1996) With Flag

Oakley W. Smith, 64, of Rockford, died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 1996, in his home. He was born March 2, 1932, in Neillsville, Wis., (to Bergen and Alice Hyland Smith.) He married the former Voyna Aronson in Rockford on Aug. 4, 1956. He was a Veteran of U. S. Army, Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a Life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of American Legion Robert Carlson Post for 32 years. He lived in Naples, Fla., the past 10 years, before returning to Rockford.

Survivors include his wife, Voyna; sons, Dana Walter (Jennifer) Smith of Rockford and Douglas Oakley (Linda) Smith of Milwaukee, Wis.; three grandsons, David and Patrick of Milwaukee and Kane Smith of Rockford; his mother, Alice Smith of Neillsville, Wis.; five brothers, Ralph (Iris) Smith of Michigan, Herbert (Dawn) of Milwaukee, Arlo (Shirley) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Duane (Carla) of Racine, Wis., and Darwin (Roxane) of Augusta, Wis.; four sisters: Bonnie (Charles) Straube of Grafton, Wis., Gladys (Arthur) Bowen of Arizona, Nancy (James) Breitung of Neillsville and Etta Ann Czarnik of Black River Falls; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Bergen; sisters, Marie Mueller and Betty Smith; and brother Everett Smith.

Services at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, in Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., with Father William Wentink, pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church officiating, with burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
