Dearth, Shirley (Marriage - 1973)

The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Owen, was the setting for the July 28 wedding of Miss Shirley Dearth and Phillip Ely. Officiating at the evening ceremony was the Rev. Lester Kringle. A reception in the church basement followed. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dearth of Rt. 2 Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ely of Rt. 1 Loyal.

As she was presented in marriage by her father, the bride wore a high-waist gown of traditional satin styled with lace-overlay bodice, lace sleeves and a standing collar. Her elbow-length bouffant veil was caught by a matching satin and lace headpiece. Tropicana roses and white carnations formed the bridal bouquet.

Apricot dotted Swiss gowns complimented by matching hair bows were chosen by the maid of honor, Miss Susan Lingen of Columbia Heights, Mn, and the bridesmaids, Mrs. Shirley Lehr of Loyal and Mrs. Annie Greene of Danville, Il. They carried colonial bouquets of white miniature and apricot tinted carnations.

The groom’s attendants included Douglas Ely as bestman and Ronald Lehr and David Dearth as groomsmen. Ushers were Lowell Falde and Ronald Tauchen.

Michael Dearth was the ringbearer and Deanna Dearth, the flowergirl.

A 1970 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, the new Mrs. Ely attended the University Center at Medford for two years and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, for one year. Her husband graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1966 and from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1970. He majored in agriculture education and is presently employed as an agriculture instructor in the De Soto area schools.

A home in Stoddard awaited the couple upon their return from a week’s wedding trip through Wisconsin.
