Bergs, Dolores Marion (Kordus) (20 DEC 1924 - 18 DEC 2014)

Dolores Marion Bergs, 89, town of Cassel, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born December 20, 1924, in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Paszek) Kordus. On September 27, 1944, she married Norbert Bergs at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2006.

Dolores spent her entire 89 years on the family farm, purchased by her dad, Frank Kordus, in 1914. For 40 plus years, she farmed alongside Norbert while raising a family of ten children. As a homemaker, she always grew an abundant garden of vegetables, was a great seamstress, a wonderful baker and enjoyed piecing together jigsaw puzzles during the winter months. She was always up for a competitive card game of Hand and Foot. But above all, Mom’s greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She was a true servant and follower of Christ. A devout Catholic mother, she passed those beliefs and practices on to her family.

Dolores was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, serving as past president and member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, choir member, lector, eucharistic minister and member of the Rosary Society. Through her efforts, the Cassel 4-H Club began with Dolores serving as general leader for 25 years. Along with Norbert, she enjoyed many years dancing with the Marathon Square Dance Club. Together, they also traveled across the United States and enjoyed a number of trips abroad.

Survivors include Sister Paulette Bergs, Plover, Maxine (Charles) Beach, De Pere, Frank (Debra) Bergs, Rowlett, Texas, Timonthy (Susan) Bergs, Baraboo, Peter Bergs, Cassel, William Bergs, Janesville, JuliAnn Bergs, Green Bay and Mark (Jane) Bergs, Edgar. Dolores is further survived by one son-in-law, Harold Matis; 24 grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Matis, Rachel Voeltzke, Laurie (Joe) Ramsey, Greg Bialecki, Nathan Bialecki, Stephanie (Robert) Denson, Cherly Bialecki, Rhonda (Ben) Schmidt, Rebecca Bialecki, Richard Bergs, Sarah Bergs, Jennifer Bergs, Daniel (Katie) Bergs, Nathan Bergs, Kaitlyn Bergs, Anthony Bergs, Zachary Bergs, Therese (Alex) Perez, David Bergs, Monica Bergs, Matthew Bergs, Catherine Bergs, Rosalyn Bergs and Elizabeth Bergs; three step-grandchildren, Sean Beach, Heather Beach and Allison Beach; 11 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Norbert, Dolores was preceded in death by two daughters, Suzette Matis and Roxann Bialecki; four sisters; three brothers; five sisters-in-law; and five brothers-in-law.

The funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. Rev. Paul Britto presided. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Friends called on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. There was a rosary service at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
