Loyal Class of ’48 (Reunion - 7 July 1973)

A committee scattered half way across the United States planned the third reunion of the Loyal High School class of 1948. William (Bill) Catlin did the correspondence from La Mesa, California, while Mrs. Milton Knack and Mrs. Vern Dahlby, Loyal took care of other details.

Seventy-four were in attendance at Amber Inn, Saturday evening.

A member of the Faculty, LaVerne Dahlby, was master of ceremonies while there 1948 class advisor was a special guest.

Door prizes were awarded to Anola (Tews) Hagedorn, Sylvia (Beaver) Pickett, Howard Sturtz, Joan (Bender) Leon, Norma (Lueck) Erickson and Joan (Meyer) Knack. Others receiving special prizes were Sylvia (Beaver) Pickett for the early bird with the first reservation; Daryl Rowley with the youngest child; Joan (Bender) Leon for coming the greatest distance; Evelyn (Shefchik) Beyerl with the largest family and Fr. Jerome Theisen with the most educational degrees.

Gifts were given by the class to Howard Sturtz and Bill Catlin for their efforts in organizing the 20th and 25th reunions.

Table decorations were prepared by Mrs. Dahlby, Mrs. Helen (Langfeldt) Polasek and Mrs. Catherine (Habhegger) Kronberger.

Those from California attending were Joan Bender Leon, Santa Clara; William Catlin, La Mesa, while LaVine Morse Pickerign, and Joe Roth came from Minneapolis. Others from out of state were: June Voight Krueger, Centerville, South Dakota; Fr. Jerome Theisen, Collegeville, Minnesota and Joyce Mrotek Major, Preston, Minnesota.

From distant parts of Wisconsin came Mary Ann Annen Tapper, Wausau; Carroll Catlin, Menasha; Cecil Kippenhan, Chippewa Falls; Helen Langfeldt Polasek, Green Bay; Duane Mrotek, Hayward; Velda Pipkorn Machon and Rose Weyer Bord, Wisconsin Rapids; Gwendolyn Schellinger Sheehan, Milwaukee, Joan Taylor Kirsch, Monroe; Anola Tews Hagedorn, Fond du Lac, and Anna Walter Wiczynski, West Bend.

From the more immediate area were Sylvia Foelske Jensen, Norman Petersen, Eugene Zuege, and Carol Jean Darton Bender, all of Spencer; Ruth Garbisch, Granton; John, Unity; Evelyn Shefchik Beyerl, Colby; Wayne Herdrich, Vern Gardner, Catherine Habhegger Kronberger, and Betty Mathews Rueth, Greenwood; Norma Lueck Erickson, Orin Williams, Dorothy Hannan Sturtz and Howard Sturtz II, Neillsville and those from Loyal were: Zada Cain Bloom, Joan Meyer Knack, Virgene Olsen Dahlby, Daryl Rowley, Lois Schultz Zimmerman and Paul Buger.

After the dinner the Howie Sturtz orchestra provided music for dancing for classmates, spouses and special guests.
