The appointment of William S. Babbitt as manager of Thorp Loan and Thrift Company office in Faribault, Minnesota has been announced by Jean C. Broeren, Executive Vice President.

Sind joining the firm in 1972, Babbitt has served in several of Thorp’s Wisconsin offices. Prior to his recent appointment, he was manager of the Eveleth branch.

Babbitt is the son of Mrs. Myrtle Babbitt, Thorp, Wisconsin.

Patrick R. Kennedy, R. Ph., is Thorp’s new druggist, who will be residing at Rock Dame. Now known as Wolf Pharmacy, the dress store was sold to Bellicose International, Inc., a corporation owned by John H. Samuelson, R. Ph. and R. Patrick Kennedy, R. Ph. The corporation also owns the Wood River Pharmacy at Grantsburg, and the Yellow River Pharmacy at Webster. Besides hoping to take part in local activities, Mr. Kennedy says they plan on remodeling the interior of the store, and adding new lines of merchandise. Plans also call for putting a new front and side on the pharmacy.

Bio: Sobol, Richard – Barn Fire (24 – Jun 1975)

Around 15 head of cattle and the barn was lost to fire in the town of Reseburg, five miles southeast of Thorp early Tuesday morning.

The Thorp Rural Fire Department was called out at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to the Richard Sobol farm, Route 3, Thorp.

Although the barn contained hay recently chopped, Fire Chief Gene Zoromski said the fire was evidently caused by a wiring defect in the electric system on the upper portion of the barn.

The department, after 2 hours and 15 minutes left the scene t 5:45 a.m. and returned to the station here, leaving two firemen with portable tank and pump at the farm, in case of any flare up.
