Carl Zais is going into the poultry business and is putting up a building that by far surpasses anything in this vicinity. It will be heated by hot air in winter and cooled by electric fans in summer. The building will also be equipped with an automatic elevator to transport the chickens to the second story when they are ready to lay an egg. The contrivance is a modern makeshift and it will require very little training to teach the biddies to step on a small platform and their weight unhooks a secret spring and in a jiffy they are in their nest. What Mr. Zias knows about gardens and gobblers and other feathered animals would make a good sized book if it appeared in print, but we are sorry to state what he don’t know would fill volumes, but be that as it may, let us hope he will make a success of his business venture. What puzzles him the most is the breed. He finds it hard to decide between the slim shanks and the shangheis. He says they are both good feeders and non-layers, and that is his favorite bird. He says it not only saves the labor of gathering the eggs, but avoids all danger of wearing out the elevator, but in case they lay a few settings by mistake they will be for sale at a moderate price.

A number of neighbors helped Oscar Sternitzky celebrate his birthday last Thursday evening.

Fred Grottke purchased a new Chevrolet touring car last Saturday.
