Carl, Gustave Robert (1 January 1888 - 5 May 1973)

Funeral services were to be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley for Gustave Robert Carl, 85, of Neillsville, who died May 5. The Rev. Richard Eggen was to officiate and burial was to be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Georgas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gustave Carl, the son of Herman and Martha (Martin) Carl, was born January 1, 1888, in the Town of Grant and received is education in county schools. He entered military service in August of 1917, served overseas in France and was discharged in May of 1919 at Camp Grant, Ill.

His marriage to the former Lillie Dux took place November 5, 1919, in Neillsville. The Carls farmed for 29 years before retiring and moving to the city on February 9, 1949. Mr. Carl, who had served on the Pine Valley Town board and on the school board, entered Memorial Home last September. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley and of Haugen-Richmond Post No. 73, American Legion.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Mrs. Vern (Florence) Volp of Omro, Herman Carl of Neillsville, Mrs. Robert (Eileen) Berg of Fairfield, Ca., Mrs. Anton (Jeanette) Perushek of Neillsville and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Mitte of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Borde of Albion, five brothers, Alfred, Arthur and Harry Carl of Neillsville, William Carl of Medical Lake, Wa., and Ernest Carl of Nekoosa; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
