"For exceptionally meritorious service while serving as a planner and coordinator of logistical activities in the II Field Force Vietnam," Colonel Vernon C. Ramberg has been presented the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement.

Colonel Ramberg, formerly of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis., was assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-4, II Field Force Vietnam from May 1966 to January 1967. Serving in one of the two major field commands in Vietnam he was a key figure in the development and sustaining of necessary combat services support operations, supply, and maintenance activities vital to effective conduct of tactical operations.

The citation accompanying this award said, "Through his untiring efforts, exercising of sound judgment, and display of initiative, Colonel Ramberg fostered a spirit of determination and cooperation between supported and supporting units, and markedly assisted the accomplishment of the headquarters mission in the Republic of Vietnam."

Colonel Ramberg is a 1933 graduate of Thorp (Wis.) High School. He later was graduate from Wis. State College, Eau Claire in 1939, and after attending the University of Wisconsin and Colorado, receive his MA degree in psychology from American University, Washington, D.C. in 1960.

He is now serving as Chief Training Division, U.S. Army Material Command (AMC), Washington, D.C. AMC performs the wholesale material logistics function for the Army, encompassing research and development, product engineering, test and evaluation, procurement and production, and inventory management. Operating with a $21.4 billion inventory and an annual expenditure of $14.1 billion, this Command directly employs 14.000 military and approximately 160,000 civilian personnel.

Before going to Vietnam in 1966, Colonel Ramberg served with the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Previous assignments were with the Office of the Quartermaster General, Washington, D.C, and 5th U.S. Army, Chicago, Ill.

In addition to the Bronze Star he holds the Army Commendation Medal and two battle stars earned in the European Theater during World War II.

Colonel and Mrs. Ramberg are parents of four children. Mrs. Ramberg is now residing at 103 Nottingham Place, Clarksville, Tenn., where their youngest daughter is in school. Colonel Ramberg was a resident there before departing for Vietnam.

His mother is Mrs. Charles Ramberg, Thorp, Wisconsin.
