Diercks, William Henry (25 April 1894 - 8 October 1972)

A resident of Clark County since 1904, William Henry Dircks, 78, of Neillsville, died here October 8. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 11, at 1:30 p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Georgas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Diercks, the son of Edward and Rosaline (Falkman) Diercks, was born April 25, 1894, at Oshkosh and came to Clark County in 1904, locating in the Town of levis. His marriage to the former Clara Zickert took place November 3, 1915, in Neillsville. The couple farmed in the Town of Beaver and in the Town of York. After Mrs. Diercks death on September 30, 1949, he moved to Neillsville and lived on the north side.

He was married December 20, 1950, in Withee to Emma Felser, who died June 22, 1962. His marriage to Greta Vollmert took place December 2, 1964, in Loyal.

Mr. Diercks was employed at various jobs for several years, and worked at the city hall for the 10 years preceding his retirement. He entered the hospital on August 3 due to failing health. Mr. Diercks was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Vera) Drescher and Mrs. Walter (Erna) Saibold of Neillsville and Mrs. Herbert (Marie) Hinkelmann of Loyal; a brother, Carl Diercks of Neillsville; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Herman Hagedorn, Duane Sternitzky, Leon Metcalf, Leslie Armitage, Alvin Wendt and Alvin Jacob. The children of St. John’s school sang “Asleep in Jesus” and “Abide O Dearest Jesus.” Victor Lehmann was the accompanist.

Those from out of town who attended the services included Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hinkelmann and family and Mrs. Thomas Purcell, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Steven Allar, Auburndale; Mrs. Anna Rossman, Mrs. Ervin Heck, Mrs. Floyd Heck, Mrs. Harvey Heck and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Diercks, Greenwood; Mrs. Lola Ratsch, Granton; Mrs. Arnold Poeschel, Mondovi; Mrs. Chester Diercks, Mosinee; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Diercks, Arpin; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Heiman and Dale, Marshall; Mrs. George Johnson, Mr. Horeb; and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vollmert, Wisconsin Rapids.
