Vetrone, William Henry (23 April 1929 - 29 January 2014) With Flag

William H. Vetrone, 84, of N11393 Old Stage Road, Alma Center, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, 2014, at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls.

William Henry Vetrone, son of Michele and Vila (Ashley) Vetrone, was born April 23, 1929, in Red Granite. As a child, he attended school in Wood County, graduating in 1945. From 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948, he served in the United States Navy. Bill was united in marriage to Vivian Bertha Herron Jan. 22, 1949, in Wautoma. The couple lived for a time in Red Granite before moving to Wisconsin Rapids, later to Neillsville, and in 1975 they moved to their present home in Garden Valley Township, rural Alma Center. After Bill returned from the service, he had worked at the paper mill in Biron and for Glebke’s Dairy in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1958, he purchased his own milk route, which he operated until 1985, and then he worked for Wisconsin Dairies (Ludeman’s Dairy), working for them until he retirement. Bill also hauled grain for area farmers. During his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he took great pride in taking care of his lawn.

He will be dearly missed by his four sons, William (Jan) Vetrone Jr. of Merrillan, James (Audrey) Vetrone of Kalispell, MT, Edward Vetrone and Timothy Vetrone, both of rural Alma Center; daughter, Deborah (Mike) Laufenberg of Hixton; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 10 siblings.

On Feb. 24, 2011, he was preceded in death by Vivian, his wife of 62 years, 1 month and 2 days. He was also preceded in death by his two granddaughters, Rebecca Vetrone and Kari Laufenberg; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with the visitation Saturday staring at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alma Center with military rites conducted by Alma Center area veterans.
