Huggins, Virginia (20 AUG 1966)

The marriage of Miss Virginia Spencer Huggins and Jerome King Laurent was solemnized Saturday, Aug. 20, 1966, at 4 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Evansville, Ind. The officiating clergyman was Rev. Dr. Charles J. Harth, rector of St. Barnabas Church, Baltimore, Maryland, and uncle of the groom.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Victor Spencer Huggins, Evansville, and Mr. Laurent's parents are Capt. And Mrs. Francis W. Lauren, U.S.N. (retired), presently of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).

An organ concert of six Bach selections preceded the ceremony. The processional was Puroell's "Trumpet Voluntary" and Cictor's "Tocdata" was the recessional.

Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of silk organza styled with portrait neckline and short sleeves of Chantilly lace. The fitted bodice was enhanced with appliques of lace and seed pearls. The lace appliques were repeated on the modified bouffant skirt and extended onto the chapel length train. A double crown of lace petals edged in seed pearls secured her veil of silk illusion. The bridal bouquet was of white phaaenopsis and stephanotis.

Miss Margaret Beverly Huggins served as her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Laurent, West Bend, Wis., sister of the bridegroom; Miss Carol Brenton Huggins, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Joseph N. Triplett, Nashville, Tenn.

The bridal attendants wore floor length gowns of chiffon over taffeta in ocean spray and jade. Each was styled with a modified scoop neckline, Dior length sleeves, natural waistline and back fly panel extending from a large flat bow. They wore headdresses of matching organza roses with short bouffant veils and carried bouquets of mixed flowers with accents of jade.

For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Huggins chose a costume of beige silk ribbon knit. She wore a pink and white hat and white orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore a blue lace dress and hat with matching accessories. Her corsage was of pink tea roses.

Best man for Mr. Laurent was Carl Phillips of St. Louis, Mo.. Serving as groomsmen and ushers were John Lunde of Valparaiso, Ind., Kenneth E. Martin of St. Louis, Mo., and Patrick Mann of Bloomington, Ind.

A reception in the Pompeian Room of Hotel McCurdy followed the ceremony. Mrs. James T. Mann of Columbus, Ohio, registered the guests.

The bride received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., and the M.A.T. in English from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

Mr. Laurent holds an A.B. Degree from Wis. State University, Eau Claire, and a Master's Degree in economics from Indiana University. A candidate for a doctorate in economics, he is presently a member of the economics faculty at Wis. state University - Whitewater.

Following the wedding trip the couple will reside at 420 Harmony Drive in Whitewater, Wis.
