Sturtz, Donna (1 JUL 1951)

The first day of July was chosen by Dona Sturz by Donna Stutz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sturtz, 610 Chippewa St., Merrill, and Roger R. Mead, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Mead, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), for their wedding which was held in the St. John's Lutheran Church at four o'clock. The Rev. W.F. Ludwig officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Mixed baskets of early flowers flanked the altar of the church forming a lovely setting for the rites. Bouquets of similar flowers decorated the altar.

As Mrs. Ludwig played soft organ music the guests were ushered to their places by Eric Sturtz, Clintonville, uncle of the bride, and James Mead, Waukesha, brother of the groom. She also accompanied Mrs. Arthur Buether when she sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord is My Shepherd."

Robert Mead of Greenwood, brother of the groom, attended him as best man.

Nola Gokey, Antigo, cousin of the bride, her only attendant, was attired in a Nile green taffeta gown simply designed with a molded bodice and bouffant skirt. The Scoop neckline of the bodice was accented with a stand-up collar adorned with green lace bouffant skirt. Tiny buttons closed the front of the bodice. Miss Gokey carried a colonial bouquet of pink and white carnations and buttons.

Ivory slipper satin trimmed with net formed the gown worn by the bride. Her long sleeves tapered to points at the wrists. She wore a short blusher veil and a neckline of pearls and matching earrings, gifts of the groom. The bride carried a white handkerchief, gift of the groom's mother, and a prayer book topped with an orchid.

Mrs. Sturtz wore an aqua summer sheer frock, while Mrs. Mead was attired in a navy blue sheer. Both accented their ensembles with corsages of pink and white carnations.

Bouquets of garden flowers and a wedding cake, gift of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. William Schwitzke, Birnamwood, decorated the tables when a wedding dinner was served in the parlors of the church. A reception honoring the newlyweds also was held in the church parlors.

Following a honeymoon trip to southern Wisconsin, you Mrs. Mead will reside with her parents while the groom will go to California where he will enroll in a school at a naval base there.

The bride is a graduate of the Merrill High School and is a clerk at Peterman's Store in Merrill. The groom, a graduate of the Greenwood High School with the class of 1947, is a mechanist Mate 3 in the U.S. Navy.

Guests present from away were from Milwaukee, Waukesha, Big Bend, Loyal, Two Rivers, Clintonville, Birnamwood, Rhinelander, Antigo and greenwood.
