Davel, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davel (02 October 1902 -15 October 1967)

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davel, Loyal, who were married at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at Loyal on Oct. 8, 1902, celebrated their 65 anniversary by attending Mass Sunday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Their children are planning a open-house for them on Sunday, Oct. 15, at the home of their son, Lawrence. The open-house will be held from 2 – 4 p m. To be followed by a dinner at the Amber Inn in Loyal for the immediate family at 5 p.m.

Mr. Davel was born in Germany October 31, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Davel. He received his education at the Spencer schools. He resided in Spencer and Loyal, started the Davel Grocery Store in 1907 and selling it in June, 1947 to his son, Lawrence, who now operates the store.

Mr. Davel is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, which he joined in 1915, becoming a member of the Fourth Degree in 1920. He also is affiliated with the Holy Name Society. He served as the village president of Loyal, also the village treasurer, served on the school board for more than 40 years and was a fireman. He still is an honorary fireman.

He enjoys good health and may be seen walking down town daily.

Mrs. Davel is the former Florence Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Baker, was born at Seymour on August 15, 1880, and was educated at Loyal, where she was a member of the third class to be graduated from Loyal High School.

She taught in rural schools in the area before her marriage. Mrs. Davel is also a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She is a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society. She is in good health and belongs to several card clubs.

The couple have rresided in Loyal all of their married life. Mr. Davel, having clerked in stores prior to starting his own business. On June 9, 1947 he retired.

The Davels are parents of eleven children, Lawrence and Paul, Loyal; Edward of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs.Fred (Evelyn) Nolan of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Scott (Marie) Canney, Algoma; Mrs. Al (Gertrude) Phair, Oshkosh; Miss Martina Davel, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. James (Kathryn) Babb, Long Island, New York; Mrs. Lucian (Madeline) Krawczyk, Pulaski; Mrs. William (Jane) Simpson, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Mrs. Al (Dorothy) Schmook, Madison; 36 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
