Mack, Sherrin L. (17 SEP 1925 – 12 FEB 2014)

Sherrin L. Mack, 88, Loyal, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 14, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal Rev. Steve Brice officiated. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Military rites were conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175. Burial will take place in the Loyal Cemetery at a later date.

Sherrin Lee Mack was born on Sept. 17, 1925, in Loyal, the son of Walter and Lulu (nee Welsh) Mack. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1943. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1943 and served in the 65th Division, 3rd Army, under General George S. Patton. After his discharge in May 1946, Sherrin returned to Loyal and worked at Englewood Nursery in Spencer for a short time. He married Leabel S. Voight on Jan. 15, 1947, at St. Anthony's rectory in Loyal. Sherrin worked for 10 years at Lakeshire-Marty Cold Storage in Loyal, before becoming a rural mail carrier in 1957. He retired in 1987 after 30 years with the postal service. Sherrin also tended bar at the bowling alley for several years and calibrated bulk tanks. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and the Loyal American Legion, where he took care of the Legion trout pond for many years. Sherrin was very active in the Loyal community. He and his wife, Lea, helped and took in troubled kids in the community. He served on the Loyal City Council and the Loyal School Board, and coached sixth-grade boys basketball for several years. His interests were many, including the love of fly fishing, golfing, bowling, growing roses, being in the woods hunting grouse and pheasants, and traveling. He loved his dogs, especially giving them rides in the golf cart.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Lea, Loyal; his children, Michael (Joan) Mack, Windsor, Isabelle Price, Scottsdale, Ariz., Kevin (Michelle) Mack, Buffalo City, Maureen Lindekugel, Marshfield, Ted Mack, Buffalo City, Shawn (Julie) Mack, Austin, Texas, Susan Austin, Waukesha, and Patrick (Diana) Mack, Poynette; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Mack, Melbourne, Australia; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mildred Sterr; his twin sister, Shirley Kehoe; one brother, Vance Mack; and a great-grandson, Jacob Mack.
