Pickruhn, Charles #3 (09 OCT 1867 - 17 DEC 1942)

Charles Pickruhn, son of Karl and Minnie Franz Pickruhn, was born at Kiel, Wisconsin on October 9, 1967. The early years of his life were spent at Kiel. As a young man he went to Milwaukee where he learned the harness maker’s trade. In 1890 he came to Marshfield and two years later to Loyal. Twenty-seven years ago, he and his family came to Greenwood, where he opened a harness makers shop and built his present home. He worked at his trade until about a year ago when ill health forced him to retire.

On May 19, 1897 he was united in marriage to Bertha Litka. To this union were born two children, a daughter Arvilla and a son Edwin. Edwin passed away at the age of 3 years and 4 months.

Mr. Pickruhn passed away on Thursday, December 17, 1942 at his home from a heart attack. He had reached the age of 75 years.

He was a member of Zion Reformed Church of Greenwood, a member of the E.R.A. Lodge and the City Council for six years.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 20, at 12:30 from the home and at 1:00 o’clock from Zion Reformed Church, Rev. B.M. Fresenborg officiated. He was laid to rest in the Loyal Cemetery.
Mrs. B.M. Fresenborg, Mrs. Vilas Emberson, Miss Martha Horn and Miss Louise Keiner sang “Nearer Still Nearer” “Sweetly Resting” and “Nearer My God To Thee” accompanied by Mrs. Adolph Meyer at the organ.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Peter (Arvilla) Lydiksen of Loyal; four sisters Mrs. Minnie Knuth, Milwaukee; Mrs. Henry Schilling, New Holstein; Mrs. Alfred Voland, Kiel; Mrs. Amelia Widder, Sheboygan; one brother Theodore Pickruhn, Elkhart Lake; besides other relatives and many friends.

The pallbearers were E.L. Mlada, Adolph Meyer, Albert Shanks, George Braun, Ed Buker and Adolph Schwarze.

Those who carried flowers were Mrs. Bertha Volk, Mrs. Caroline Volk, and Miss Isadore Shields.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Minnie Knuth, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Philpott, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stowe and son, Mrs. Gary Scheel, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Litka, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Litka, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bauer, all of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Binning and son, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bauer, Marshfield.
