Clifton, Alice M. (9 APR 1876 - 1 JAN 1965)

Funeral services for Mrs. Percy Clifton, a resident of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for 60 years, were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 2. Rev. Robert Goessling officiated at the final rites held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Owen, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery. Six grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Clifton, nee Alice Marie Mink, passed away quite suddenly, being stricken with cerebral hemorrhage about 9:00 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen, where she had been a resident for the past three years, and passed away at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 2, 1965.

Born April 9, 1876 at Greenwood, Mrs. Clifton would have been 89 years of age in April. As a young lady she taught school in several communities in southern Wisconsin, and after her marriage to the late Percy Clifton on June 3, 1904, at Thorp, moved to Owen, where she had spent the remainder of her life, a span covering 60 years.

During this time she had spent many years in business, having operated a restaurant in several different locations in the city. Meanwhile she was always actively engaged in the activities of the Congregational Church and its social circles, as well as those of the Royal Neighbor Lodge.

Mrs. Clifton is survived by two sons, Floyd of Madison and Kenneth of Stratford; 12 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

In addition to being preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1954, one son, Aaron, lost his life while attempting to save a youth drowning at Cadott in 1930.
