Poole, George A. (21 SEP 1861 - 12 JUN 1953)

George Albert, youngest son of John C. and Susan Poole, was born in Clayton Co., Iowa, on Sept. 21, 1861, and passed away on June 12, 1953, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 21 days.

His father gave his life for his country during the Civil War. Left fatherless at the age of two, he was brought to Wisconsin to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Poole, on a farm near Darlington, where he grew to manhood.

On Nov. 16, 1882 he was united in marriage to Myrtle E. Benedict. To this union two children were born, Mabel and Leroy. They started farming on the Poole homestead, later moving to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where they farmed for a period of twenty-five years.

On Nov. 16, 1932 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Poole passed away the following years, on June 18, 1933.

Last September, his niece, Mrs. Minnie Lawrence at Camas, Wash. invited him to spend the winter with her, and he made the trip there by train, alone. While there he was taken suddenly ill but recovered sufficiently to return to Darlington. Shortly after his return here he was taken with a severe heart attack from which he did not recover and passed away quietly in the La Fayette County Memorial Hospital.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughter, Mabel (Mrs. C.E. Nelson), Darlington, his son Leroy of Kelly Lake, Minn., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two nieces.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon, June 15 at two o'clock in the Baptist Church, Darlington, of which he was a lifelong member. Services were conducted by the Rev. Wendell Hanson, and burial was in the Union Grove Cemetery.
