Zallar, John (Nice Memories - 01 JAN 1953)
During the past week the
Greenwood and Willard area lost a good friend. That friends was John Zallar, who
died suddenly Christmas Day of a heart attack. John was a member of the County
Board of Supervisors and also a great fan of baseball. John managed baseball
teams here and at Willard, and during the past few years had been the umpire for
the Greenwood team. The biggest tribute we can pay to John is a remark we have
often heard at ball games. That was: "When Zallar is umpiring you can be sure of
a square deal."
