Parkel, Frank Joseph (4 October 1878 - 19 March 1970)

Frank Joseph Parkel, 91, died at his home in Greenwood early last Thursday morning in his sleep.

Mr. Parkel, son of Jake and Mary (Albert) Parkel, was born October 4, 1878, in Yugoslavia. He came to the United States in 1902 and was married January 18, 1904, in Frontenac, Kans., to Theresa Helen Gorenc. They moved to Clark County in the fall of 1917, settling on a farm near Willard. They retired from farming in 1948 and came to the city of Greenwood. They had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in January.

Survivors are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. August (Theresa) Podobnik of Greenwood, Mrs. Nick (Ann) Babish of loyal, Mrs. Joe (Helen) Wene, Mrs. George (Mildred) Miller and Mrs. Rudolph (Donna) Singer, all of Milwaukee; a son, Frank, Jr., of Willard; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Leander Koopman officiated. Burial was made in the Holy Family Cemetery in Willard.

Pallbearers were: Emil Podobnik, Ernest Arch, Henry Lamovec, Frank Lamovec, Mike Podobnik and Stanley Raik.

Relatives from away who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Nick Babish and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Zupanc and family and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zupanc of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wene and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Singer and family all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Parkel of Westfield, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkel and family of Madison, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Baird and family of Stevens Point.
