Meier, Christine (22 July 1887 - 13 March 1970)

Mrs. Christine Meier, 82, a resident of Memorial Home in Neillsville, died March 13. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Meier, daughter of Frank and Anna (Fiala) Dobes, was born July 22, 1887, in Chicago, Ill. She received her education there and in the Town of Levis, where she lived with her parents on a farm. On September 14, 1908, she was married in Neillsville to Adolph Meier. They operated a farm in the Town of Levis and upon their retirement in 1940 moved into the city of Neillsville. After the death of her husband in 1959 she lived with her children until entering Memorial Home three years ago. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Ella) Meihak and Mrs. Fred (Dorothy) Quast, both of Neillsville, and Mrs. Harold (Helen) Beyer of Stoughton; six sons, Frank Meier of Salem, Ore., William H. Meier of Merrill, and Adolph, Louis, Charles and Clarence Meier, all of Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Julia) Vendl of North Judson, Ind.; 34 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Raymond Meier, Jeffery Meier, Allen Meier, Charles Meier, Jr., Dale Meihak and Richard Quast. “Abide With Me” was sung by Dale Meihak and the seventh and eighth graders of St. John’s Lutheran School sang, “What a Friend we have in Jesus” accompanied at the organ by Victor Lehmann.

Dawson of Columbus; Mrs. Ray Sitzman and daughters of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. William Meier, Jr., and family of Tomahawk; Mrs. Gayle Schoengarth and Mary and Mrs. Judy Zank of Janesville; Ronnie and Jim Meier of Crystal Lake, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Glinski of Stratford; Mrs. Henry Peepgrass of Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Sheldon Heck, Mrs. Floyd Heck and Mrs. Erwin Heck of Greenwood.
