Tomczyk, PFC Victor David (22 JUL 1945* - 2 JAN 1968**)

Death notices obtained from the Medford High School, Class of 1963 Index of Kay (Resech) Ludwig.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ruesch funeral home, Medford, for Private First Class Victor D. Tomczyk, 22, who was killed in action with the U.S. armed forces January 2, in Vietnam. Rev. Henry Bahtenburg, Jr., Christ Church Federated, Medford, officiated at services and burial took place in Stetsonville cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Joseph Grinker, Dennis Brost, David Habermeyer, Alan Peissig, Dale Gebert and Dale Geiger. The body was accompanied here by military escort and participating in military rites were representatives of the armed forces from Eau Claire and from the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion post of Stetsonville, Landua-Jensen American Legion post of Medford and Klossner-Dietzler Veterans of Foreign Wars post of Medford.

The body arrived here Wednesday, January 24, and lay in state at Ruesch funeral home from Friday noon until time of services.

PFC Tomczyk is the fourth Taylor county serviceman who had died in Vietnam since hostilities began. He had been reported missing in action as of January 2 and on January 17, the defense department announced that the soldier had died in action.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tomczyk, town of Little Black, was born in Medford in 1945 and he was graduated from Lawndale elementary school, town of Little Black, and Medford high school in 1963.

He was employed by Allis Chalmers Co., Milwaukee, for a year prior to entering the Army June 13, 1967. He arrived overseas November 23 and served with a unit near Tay Nihn, Vietnam. He was unmarried.

In addition to his parents, PFC Tomczyk is survived by five sister, Kathleen, Mrs. Peter Lapp, Dorchester, Janice of Fond du Lac, Darlene of River Falls and Dorothy and Elizabeth at home; three brothers, Norbert and Walter of Dorchester and Glen of Milwaukee, and a maternal grandfather, G. A. Gowey, Medford. He was preceded in death by one sister.
