Marriage vows were exchanged Saturday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire by Geraldine J. Wendt of Eau Claire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wendt of Owen and Roger Wathke of Eau Claire, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Wathke of Eau Claire.

The Rev. H. Juneau officiated. Soloist Dave Hoehne of Eau Claire sang, “Wedding Prayer” and “O Perfect Love.” Bouquets of white gladioli decorated the altar. Her father gave the bride away.

The bride carried a cascade of white Fuji mums. She was attired in a floor-length bridal gown of organza, with a cathedral train of peau d’ange lace, embroidered with seed pearls and sequins. Her fingertip veil of French illusion was secured to a crown of pearls and sequins.

Her bridal aides were her sister, Carol Wendt of Owen, as maid-of-honor; Shirley Le Bakken, a friend of Eau Claire, and Judy Wathke of Eau Claire, sister of the groom, as bridesmaids. They wore aqua peau de soie floor length gowns, with bateau panels, and carried cascades of pale pink and white gladioli

Walter Wathke of Eau Claire, brother of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were David Wathke of Eau Claire, brother of the groom, and Dennis Wendt of Owen, brother of the bride.

Ushers were Kenneth Laube of Colby, cousin of the bride, and Robert Wathke of Eau Claire, brother of the groom.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church parlors. A dance was held and refreshments were served in the V. F. W. hall in Eau Claire for 200 guests.

Following a honeymoon to the Mackinac Island, the newlyweds will reside at 1018 Birch St., Eau Claire.


The groom, who is employed in Eau Claire is a graduate of Fall Creek High School. His bride, a 1958 graduate of Greenwood High School and Beauty Culture School in Eau Claire, operates a beauty shop in Eau Claire.
