Bartell, John, Sr. (19 June 1881 - 20 August 1969)

John Bartell, Sr., 88, of Memorial Home and formerly of Greenwood, died here August 20. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home, with the Rev. George M. Nelson of St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Bartell was born in Europe June 19, 1881, the son of John and Mary Kancic Bartell. He came to the United States in 1904, and located in Waukegan, Ill., where he worked for the American Steel and Wire Company. He married Jennie Hafner in Waukegan in 1906. Later he came to Clark County and farmed. He had resided at Memorial Home since his retirement a few years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie, of Marquette, Mich.; a son, John Bartell of Waukegan, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Archie (Jennie) Wood and Mrs. Al (Dorothy) Cepaitis, both of Waukegan, Ill., and Mrs. William (Rosalie) Zermer of North Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Francis Kirn of North Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Andres Bartell, of North Chicago, Ill., and Paul Bartell of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: John Bartell, Al Cepaitis, Frank Parkel, R. J. Bartell, Archie Wood and E. A. Georgas.

Those from out of town attending the service were: Mr. and Mrs. John Bartell, Jr., R. J. Bartell, Beverly Herman, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Al Cepaitis, all of Waukegan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. William Zermer of North Chicago, Ill,.; and Frank Parkel of Greenwood.
