Selk, Alvord "Al" A. Jr. (21 FEB 1942 - 4 MAY 2013)

Alvord "Al" A. Selk Jr., 71, Medford, died on Saturday, May 4, at Memorial Health Center in Medford, where he had been taken earlier by ambulance.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford.

Urn bearer is Jacob Meyers. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Friedenfels, Pat Graf, Ron and Matt Lekie, Troy Sigmund and Todd Nernberger.

Visitation will be held at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford on Thursday, May 9 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 7:45 p.m. prayer service, and on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Alvord Selk Jr. was born on February 21, 1942 in Chili, to the late Alvord H. and Mable P. (Verhegan) Selk Sr. He was a graduate of Marshfield High School.

On June 15, 1963 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Chili, he married Billie Lee Binning, who survives. After high school he entered the mill working industry at Weyerhaeuser and continued his career at both Anson-Gilke and Weather Shield. He then worked for the state agriculture department doing field survey work and was also a small business owner selling his 'Woodfolke' art and carvings.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, canoeing, camping, oil painting, carving, reading and being a connoisseur of Jack Daniels. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will truly be missed.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons-in-law, Rick Friedenfels and Pat Graf, both of Medford; three granddaughters, Kristin (Matt) Lekie of Crystal, Minn., Nicole Graf of Oshkosh and Sam (significant other Troy Sigmund) of Medford; and two great-grandsons, Anthony John and Shea Patrick Graf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela A. Friedenfels on July 21, 2006 and Stephanie L. Graf on September 29, 2006.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
