Marden, Erwin S. (3 September 1914 - 5 April 1969)

Funeral services were held from the Georgas Funeral home here Wednesday afternoon for Erwin S. Marden, 54, of Neillsville, who died suddenly Saturday night of an apparent heart attack. The Rev. D. Eugene Sprague, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, was in charge. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Marden, an expert electronics repairman, died in Butch’s tavern on West Sixth Street. He had just finished playing a duet on an electric guitar with Fred Maeder of Granton. As the piece was concluded, Marden slumped over and toppled to the floor.

Earlier he had been working on television repairs at Vern’s TV, next to the tavern, as was his nightly custom. He had made a repair to Maeder’s guitar and then consented to stop in at the tavern next door, where Maeder was playing, to check the results of his work.

A native of Neillsville, Marden was born September 3, 1914. He attended Neillsville schools and entered the service as a radar instructor during World War II. On his return here after his military service, he started a repair shop, and later was employed in development at Auto-Test, Inc., local automotive and airplane test equipment manufacturer, where he remained for eight years. In late years he had served as a repairman for Vern’s TV.

Marden is survived by his mother, Mrs. Eva Marden of Neillsville; a son Keith, of Menomonee Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Judith) Hanson of Sanger, Calif., and Mrs. Joe (Velma) Gil of Campbell, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Irene Wall of Denver, Colo.; and a grandchild.
