Skabroud, Thomas H. (28 OCT 1916 - 12 JUN 2012)

Thomas H. Skabroud, 52, Sheldon, died on Tuesday, June 12 at his home, after a 3 – 1/2 year battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon, with Pastor Aric Fenske officiating. Burial was at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Jump River.

Nash – Jackan Funeral Home of Ladysmith assisted the family with arrangements.

Thomas Skabroud was born on March 13, 1960 in Marshfield to Norman and Marlene Skabroud of Sheldon.

On June 7, 1980 at Trinity Lutheran Church, he married Brenda Mallo, who survives.

After he married, he worked for Gerald Mengel at the Jump River Locker, then he went to work for his dad at Skabroud's Grocery Store in Sheldon where he worked for 17 years. After he left there, he did several odd jobs before opening up his own business called The Gun Cabinet in Ladysmith in 2003. In 2011 he closed the gun shop and bought the JR Slaughter and Smokehouse, now called Skabroud's Meat. This he bought with his wife and son.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with a great love for the outdoors. He was also an excellent gun smith. In 1977 Tom, his dad and brothers started the Norm's softball team which is still going strong today with the second generation.

In addition to his parents and wife, survivors include two sons, Clayton (fiancée Liz) and Alex (friend Sandy), both of Sheldon; two daughters, Courtney (Drew) Weimer and Alicia (Nic) Schleis; three brothers, Chris (Lynn) of Gilman, and Doug (Diane) and Dean (Shelley), both of Sheldon; two sisters, Julie (Lindy) Siemek and Jody (Brian) Oelkers, both of Sheldon; and three grandsons.
