McNamar, Ray L. (8 MAY 1916 - 26 APR 2012)

Former Medford resident Ray L. McNamar, 95, Rhinelander, died on Thursday, April 26 at Ministry St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander, where he had been a patient the past two days.

A memorial visitation was held on Thursday, May 3 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford. Inurnment was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford.

Ray McNamar was born on May 8, 1916 in Whittlesey to the late George and Hattie A. (Stamm) McNamar. He attended Town of Chelsea elementary school and was a graduate of Medford High School.

On May 21, 1941 in Medford, he married Mildred T. Docter, who preceded him in death October 7, 1998.

After his education, he worked at Medford Motors, then as a bookkeeper at Wisconsin Bottle Gas in Medford, which he became a partner in, then owned it for many years. He also started satellite operations in Wausau, Three Lakes, Tomahawk, Merrill and Minocqua, until his retirement. He lived at Country Gardens in Medford before recently moving to Rhinelander.

He was a member of Cedar Springs Hunting Lodge, and past member of the Medford Curling Club, Tee Hi Golf Club and Medford Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travel, golf, horseback riding, canoeing, skiing and spending time at the second home on Lake Tomahawk.

Survivors include a daughter, Mona Wiechmann of Manitowish Waters; a son, Pat (Marlys) of Minocqua; and five grandchildren, Jim, Shane and Steve Wiechmann, Shannon Eckley and Justin McNamar; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Bobbe, and a brother, Lester.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
