Prominent Wausau Citizen and Political Leader Dies

 

Wausau, Wis. – Hon. John Ringle, a resident of Wausau since 1859, former mayor and postmaster of the city and leader in Democratic politics in the state, died suddenly at his home here yesterday morning as the result of an attack of heart trouble. Mr. Ringle was 74 years of age.

 

During his long career of public service Mr. Ringle served as county clerk of Marathon County, member and chairman of the board of supervisors, Mayor of Wausau for three terms, postmaster for four years, member of the city council, and member of the assembly and the senate at Madison. He also served as delegate to two Democratic national conventions.

Relatives in this community and town of Herman received word that John Ringle Jr., 58, prominent Wausau businessman, died on Thursday at his apartment in in Glendale, Calif. Mr. Ringle had gone to the coast to join his wife, and suffered a heart attack a few days after his arrival in Glendale. Mr. Ringle was president of the Mathie-Ruder Brewing Company and of the Northern Chief Iron Company, headed the Ringle Brick Company, served as a director of a Wausau Bank, and was active in other organizations, especially in the Democratic Party. In 1940 he was candidate for state treasurer.

John Ringle, Wausau, Industrialist, Dead

 

Wausau, Wis. – John Ringle, Jr., president of the Mathei-Ruder Brewing Company and the Northern Chief Iron Company here, died yesterday in his apartment in Glendale, Calif. He left Friday to visit his wife and son, John F., who is a student in an aviation school.

The body is expected to be returned here.

 

Ringle also was secretary-treasurer of the Ringle Brick Company which was founded by his father, the late John F. Ringle, Sr.

 

Ringle took a prominent part in state Democratic politics and last week was elected chairman of the Marathon County committee. He was a delegate at national conventions in Chicago and Philadelphia, and was candidate for state treasurer several years ago.
