Heida, James (23 Mar. 1875 – 13 June 1940)

James Heida, who was one of the pioneers in the Town of Holton, died at his home Thursday, June 13th of cancer and arthritis at the age of 65. He had been ill the past year and a half and was confined to his bed the past year.

James Heida was born in Milwaukee, March 23, 1875. At the age of two years he came with his parents who purchased a farm in the Town of Holton. He he lived until his marriage to Miss Anna Leu which took place at Spencer in 1901.

Mr. Heida and his bride went to the farm he had purchased for himself; also in the Town of Holton. They lived there until the time of his death.

Four children were born to them. One son, Harry, preceded his father in death at the age of eleven years. He is survived by his widow, two sons, George, of Milwaukee and Myron at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Martin Daenicke of Abbotsford. Three brothers, Frank and George Heida, of Town of Holton, Joe, of Eau Claire and one sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of Stevens Point and three grandchildren, Donald, Elaine and Beverly Daenicke of Abbotsford also survive.

The Rev. J. Brandt of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church conducted a short funeral service at one o’clock at the home, at which Victor Brandt sang. This was followed by services at the church at 1:30. Two hymns, Just As I Am and Abide With Me were sung by the choir. Internment was made in the Holton cemetery.

Neighbors of the deceased acted as pallbearers. They were: Simon Johnson, Frank Hopfensperger, Walter Boss, Seth Barker, Fred Meske and Louis Mitzlaff.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Heida, Mrs. Frank Wanderscheck, Mrs. Ida Schupmehl, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heida, Eau Claire; Mrs. Mary Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith of Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Heida, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rank and Mr. and Mrs. John Dusick, Boyd; and Miss Ruth Pischner, Stetsonville.
