Cross, Norma E. (27 May 1916 - 5 May 1996)

Norma E. Cross, 79, Marshfield, died at 10:25 p.m. May 5, 1996, at St. Joseph’s Hospital hospice home, House of the Dove, where she had been admitted on April 15.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steven P. Chellew, pastor, will officiate. Music will be provided by Ilse Bradtke, organist, for William A. Allen, soloist.

Burial will be in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Marlene Luepke, Lori Luepke, Glen Luepke, Bruce Luepke, Gary Luepke and Mark Cross.

Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel and again until noon Friday at the funeral chapel, then from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church.

She was born May 27, 1916, in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, to William and Alvina (Foth) Luepke. She was married to John E. Cross on Sept. 29, 1934, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer.

She attended town of Brighton elementary schools and graduated from Spencer High School. After her education, she was employed in Marshfield. Following her marriage, she resided in Clark County until moving to Marshfield in 1945 when Mr. Cross became associated with Marshfield Book & Stationery, Inc. He retired in 1985 as chairman of the board after 40 years with the firm.

The couple continued to reside in Marshfield and after Mr. Cross’ death, Mrs. Cross lived with Christine Ledden from July 1991 until the present time.

Mr. and Mrs. Cross celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Marshfield, th Church Altar Guild, a former member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Grey Ladies, and a former volunteer for the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her brother, Vilas W. (Irene) Luepke of Spencer, two sisters-in-law, Esther Luepke of Spencer and Alva Luepke of Hayward; her brother-in-law, James Cross of Marshfield; and her caregiver, Christine Ledden of Marshfield.

She was predeceased by her husband on July 18, 1991; her son, Roger Cross on March 10, 1955; her parents; and two brothers, Elroy Luepke and Leonard Luepke.

Memorials may be designated in her name to Christ Lutheran Church or St. Joseph’s Hospital hospice home, House of the Dove.
