Merchant, Lois Merry (2 Mar. 1919 - 27 Oct. 2008)

JUNCTION CITY -- Lois Merry Merchant, 89, formerly of Junction City, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at New Hope Community Free Church, Junction City. Burial will take place in Runkel Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Martens/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Lois was born March 2, 1919, in Iowa, to Frank and Carrie (Cruise) Derr. The family moved to Oshkosh when she was young. She met William Merchant during World War II and they married Aug. 25, 1945. They lived in Solon Mills, Ill., until 1954 and then moved to Junction City. He died in 1997. She worked at Holiday Inn, Stevens Point, for many years, retiring there in 1996 to take care of her husband.

Lois is survived by five children, Barbara (Donald) Frevert, Oshkosh, Dale (Sarah) Merchant, Junction City, Robert Merchant, Junction City, Beverly (Warren) Kaestner, Kingston, Tenn., and Mary (Warren) Knutson, Arcadia; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
