ADOLPH STELZLS ARE HONORED FOR 50TH NUPTIAL ANNIVERSARY EVENT

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Stelzl, Route 2, Spencer, who were married September 9, 1914 in the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church at Spencer by the Rev. A. F. Ziehlsdorf, were honored Sunday, September 23 at a golden anniversary celebration held at the American Legion Hall, Marshfield.

Dinner was served at 12:30 P.M. at tables decorated with gold napkins, gold lighted tapers encircled with yellow chrysanthemum and ivy wreaths and vases of gold zinnias. Gold serving pieces were used at the table where the anniversary couple and honored guests sat. A large gold bell centered the ceiling, from which gold balloons also were hung. A display of family pictures were hung over a table decorated with gold candles and a money tree.

The anniversary cake, in the shape of "50", trimmed with yellow roses and gold leaves, was decorated by a granddaughter, Miss Merydene Stecker.

Mrs. Stelzl was presented with a corsage of yellow roses with white leaves flecked with gold. Her husband had a yellow rosebud boutonniere.

The table prayer and toast to the honored couple were led by their only son, Arnold. At the close of the meal all attending joined in a song of thanks, which also included a prayer for the couple.

An old German hymn, which originated in Germany and was used at an aunt's golden wedding was sung by Mrs. Ed Glaman, Mrs Simon Pflum, Mrs. Emil Mellenthin and Dennis Glaman.

A skit, depicting the past 50 years was presented by Michael and Janean Stelzl, portraying their grandparents. Readers were Sharon Klein and Merydene Stecker. Songs were sung by the grandchildren, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Arnold Stelzl. The German song "Schnitzelbank", led by Mrs. Richard A. Hansen was sung. Pictures drawn by Michael Stelzl explained the words of the song. Cornet solos were presented by Dennis Glaman and Michael Stelzl.

Guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mitzlaff of Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Stecker and children, Merydene, James, Kathleen, Jeffrey, Cheryl, Judith, Cynthia, Debra, Diane, Timothy and Steven, of Arpin; Mr. and Mrs Walter Stapel, Mr and Mrs. Gerhard Klein and daughter, Sharon and son Gary, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Stelzl and children Michael, Janean, Janell and Mark, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mellenthin, Mr. Eldor Mellenthin, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Toltzman, Mr. and Mrs. William Luepke, Mr. and Mrs. George Luepke, Mr. Joseph Kaholka, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Glaman, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Glaman, Mr. and Mrs Donald Glaman and children, Dennis and Kathy, Mrs. Simon Pflum, Mr. and Mrs Robert Krause, Mrs. Vinton Hansen, and Mr. Harlowe J. Hansen of Marshfield.

Mr. Stelzl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Stelzl, was born in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, on October 9, 1888. he was educated in Spencer and Marshfield schools. He has lived on the same farm his entire life, his parents having moved to the farm from Germany in the early 1880's. He is a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Spencer.

He was a school board member of the Brighton School and a former director of Farmer's Cooperative, Spencer. He is an avid Braves baseball fan and enjoys good health.

Mrs. Stelzl, the former Ida Mellenthin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mellenthin, was born in the town of Unity on September 29, 1894. She received her education in Spencer schools. She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. She, too, enjoys good health.

They are the parents of five children; Mrs. Gerhard (Isabelle) Klein, Mrs. Walter (Gertrude) Stapel, Mrs. Richard A. (Adeline) Hansen, Arnold Stelzl and Mrs. Sylvester ( Arlene) Stecker. There are 17 living grandchildren.

Mr. Herman Toltzman, an attendant at the original wedding, was present for the occasion.
